The Bonnet-t-e's & Kin, Vol. 18, pp. 1-7, 1994. Howard T. Bonnett, letter 24 November 1995. Jacob Bonnett, together with brothers Peter and Lewis, served as Indian spies on the western frontier. All applied for pensions for service during the Revolutionary War, but brother Samuel testified that they were to young to have served and hence the pensions were revoked. Harrison County was part of Frederick County, Virginia, at the time of Jacob's birth. V.D. White 1990, Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files, p. 320. Also R.B. Johnson 1959, West Virginians in the American Revolution. Jacob Bonnett, S8080, Virginia Line. Pension application files 6 August 1833 in Lewis City, Virginia, at age 72. He was drafted in Harrison (now Lewis) County [WVAR says he enlisted March 1780, serving 6 months on the western border]. Born 1761 at Cedar Creek, Frederick County, Virginia; Lewis Bonnett was his twin brother. There were two other brothers Peter and Samuel, as well as John Bonnett who died in 1783, killed by Indians; his body was hidden in a cavern on the Kanawha River. He died December 1847 leaving a widow and children. Daughters (all of Lewis City, Virginia): Martha, wife of Samuel Horner; Delilah, wife of Abraham Hess; Eliza, wife of Fleming Sprouse; Lucinda, wife of Jesse Butcher; Gracie, deceased wife of _____ West (she died leaving children); and Elizabeth, deceased wife of ______ Allhue [or Alkire]. Son Samuel, deceased, died leaving children. His pension certificate was issued 26 August 1833, but later suspended on grounds that he was too young for service. Crockett's Virginia Regiment, died Lewis County in December 1847. Wife was Martha, daughter of Jesse Hughes who died December 1834. Children of Jacob and Martha: Martha, Delilah (wife of Abram Hess), Eliza (wife of Fleming Sprouse), Lucinda (wife of Jesse Butcher), Samuel, Gracie, and Elizabeth. Testimony of Lewis Bonnett and Peter Bonnett February 1833. They voluntarily entered service in 1780 to descend the Ohio River to act against the Indians. They were commanded by Major William Lowther, Capt. Jonathan Coburn, and Ensign Benj. Sutro. They stayed at Red Stone Fort (now Brownsville), then to Newell's Store (now Elizabeth), procured boats at Pittsburg and Mature's Island, thence down the Ohio in the spring of 1781.
