Unknown GEDCOM info: Killed in a skirmish with Indians J. Comstock 1976, The West Virginia Heritage Encyclopedia Supplement Series, vol. 1, p. 20. John Bonnett was part of a company of men led by Colonel Lowther who were in pursuit of Indians who had stolen horses on the West Fork, above Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was shot in the stomach by the last Indian and died four days later. Other references give date of death as April 1783. Death September 1787. J. Comstock 1976, The West Virginia Heritage Encyclopedia Supplement Series, vol. 7, p. 12. In 1855 the children of Salathiel Stump, playing near the mouth of Tanners Fork, found a skeleton which was identified as that of John Bonnett. See also J. Lewis gave a date of April 1783 for the death of John. Date of death also given as September 1787. |
