The Bonnet-t-e's & Kin, Vol. 18, pp. 1-7, 1994. 1820 Virginia census, Lewis County, p. 145A: Samuel Bonnet, age 16- 26, with one other person in household. 1830 Virginia census, Lewis County, p. 231: Samuel Bonnet, age 30- 40, with wife of age 20-30. Two male children of ages 0-5 and 5-10. Three female children of ages 0-5, 0-5, and 10-15. V.D. White 1990, Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files. Also R.B. Johnson 1959, West Virginians in the American Revolution. Samuel named as son of Jacob Bonnett. Howard T. Bonnett, letter 24 November 1995. Samuel and his children, excepting a daughter, left (West) Virginia, going first to Ohio for three years, and then by 1850 arriving in Mahaska County, Iowa. Samuel was born in Harrison Cty, VA to Jacob and Martha Hughes Bonnett. He married 05 Dec 1820 in Lewis Cty VA to Lucinda Fitzhugh Hooe. In 1847 Samuel, Lucinda, his children, Louisa F, William H, Marshall Fitzhugh, David Dade, Mary Dade, Matilda, John Columbus, Lucinda, Elmira, Washington Franklin and Granville Nathaniel left West VA and were in Ohio for about 3 years. His daughter Martha Jane(Married to Robert R Hinzman) did not go with them. Louisa F(Married to Zachariah Taylor) had 2 daughters born in Ohio. Louisa F was remarried to Amasa Hoit, 04 Oct 1857 in Mahaska Cty, IA. William H(Married to Mahala Spaur) also had child born in Ohio. Marshall Fitzhugh,David Dade and Zachariah Taylor left for California in 1848 with an ox drawn wagon to dig for gold. The rest of the family then moved on to Mahaska Cty Iowa in 1850. Lewis, twin brother of Samuels father Jacob, had already come to Iowa with his family around 1835. Peter Bonnett,younger brother of Lewis and Jacob, died in Illinois while traveling to Iowa. Lewis, Jacob and Peter served in Virginia Militia during Revolutionary War. Upon return from California David Dade married Elizabeth Ronk. Marshall Fitzhugh married Levina Samaria Ronk, Mary Dade married Jacob A Harrold. Zachariah Taylor disappeared in California and was thought to be killed by Indians. Matilda married Porter McCrea. John Columbus married Amanda Melvina Ferguson. Lucinda married Presley LaForce. Elmira married Nicholas C Hoit. Washinton Franklin married Mary E Patterson. Granville died as a child and is buried in Cone Cemetery.Family links:
