deed to } Know all men by these presents that wherein
Wright Groom } the sum of 25/100 dollars was assessed as
city tax by authority of the city council of Mont-
gomery for Lot thirty one north Monroe Street
as the property of an unknown person and whereas the said owned
failed and refused to pay the said tax and whereas due notice
of the time and place of selling the said property to pay the said
taxes was given in the Alabama Journal as public newspaper pub-
lished in the said city of Montgomery and the said owner still failing
and refusing to pay the said taxes; on the first monday in July
being the fifth day of July in the year of our Load on thousand eight
hundred and Forty one at the court house in said city I John B
garrett collector of said city dully appointed and qualified did expos.
The said lot property above described for sale at auction to the
highest bidder redeemable in twelve months by refunding treble the
amount of tax costs and charges of sale and Wright Groom bid
Seven dollars which was the highest and best bid offerred ~~~ Know ye
that for and in consideration of the premises and the sum of Seven
dollars to me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledge

of the General assembly of the state of Alabama “ To Incorporate the city
of Montgomerry” approved December 1837, have given granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do give grant bargain sell and convey
to Wright Groom to hand and to hold the said granted and deed
premises to the said Wright Groom his heirs and assigns forever
Provided nevertheless if the said owner shall within twelve months
from this date pay treble the amount of said Taxes costs and
charges as aforesiad to the said Wright Groom then this deed
to be void otherwise to be of full force and virtue --- testimony.
